Bobbie Brown Revolutionary Lipsticks


Bright colorful makeup graced the cover of fashion magazines in the 1980’s when Bobbie Brown began he career as a freelance makeup artist. Ten years later during a photo shoot for the magazine, Mademoiselle, she meet a chemist who helped revolutionize the world of makeup. She wanted something opposite of the harsh, artificial look, her idea was to create a simpler look enhancing every women natural beauty. “ I had the idea to create a lipstick that didn't smell, wasn't dry or greasy, and looked like lips, only better.”
Brown was the name of the new lipstick whose color was pink-brown. Today it is still the number one best selling lipstick from her makeup line Bobbi Brown Professional Cosmetics.  She choose to start her collection with a variety of 10 lipstick shades, each one having a brown base. In 1991 the new innovative lipsticks made their debuted at Bergdorf Goodman.  Selling 100 with in the first day, 100 was the number of lipsticks project to sell over the course of one month.  She says  “ The message was clear: Women wanted makeup that was simple, flattering, and wearable.” Magazines quickly spread the word of lipstick colors at the time called Bobbie Brown’s Essentials actually being the color of lips versus neon orange.
From there the line began to expand into lip liner and foundations due to customer demand ultimately creating the variety of products offered today.  In1995 Bobbie and her business partner, Rosalind Landris sold the company to the Beauty Industry Empire, Estee Lauder. However Bobbie still to this day has the creative control of the brand. Today lipsticks have six different collections in the line.
Estee Lauders mission statement is :"Bringing the best to everyone we touch". By "The best", we mean the best products, the best people and the best ideas. These three pillars have been the hallmarks of our Company since it was founded by Mrs. Estee Lauder in 1946. They remain the foundation upon which we continue to build our success today.
